Frankenstein Thoughts

I think it is most likely the point of the story, but i find the creature in Frankenstein to be far
more empathetic and understandable then the good doctor himself. I think most of us can connect with aspects of the creature, his general sense of empathy and sympathy, his instincts for compassion and to help others and do good. He might be the character in the book that shows those traits more then anyone else. Where as I find Frankenstein to be more of the monstrous and repulsive character in the story. The monster may look to be an enormous grotesque creature, but he was simply created that way–created through the barbarism of desecrating, mutilating stitching together parts of corpses. It was Frankenstein who consciously and eagerly birthed a creature from savagery, and it existed savagely. I find it incredibly hypocritical that Frankenstein abandoned his creation in terror because of its gruesome birth and appearance and yet showed no sign of that same terror or squeamishness when he butchered corpses and did experiments on them, twice mind you both with the creature and the progress he made on the female. It seems Frankensteins distaste for the abhorrent only appears when he has to face the responsibility of what he has done. Which in many ways makes him seem more monstrous to me, since that his how the most evil of us behave in the real world, they hide behind the "in retrospect what have I done?" or " I was doing what was best for the country" or " I know it was wrong but I was just following orders" these are the types of people that are inline with Frankensteins character. In many ways i would argue that Frankenstein is more responsible for the creatures three murders than the creature its self. Not just due to the fact that Frankenstein made the creature, but because he abandoned the creature, leaving it to a cruel world that could not understand and did not deserve its empathy, pushing the creature into a psychological corner where it felt forced to lash out violently like an animal. Frankensteins deranged experiments created a creature, but him abandoning his child to a horrible unforgiving world, created a monster.
